Fetal Dystocia
This is a condition where there is difficulty in labour, especially when the baby's size is bigger than normal. Mothers are at risk of Fetal Dystocia when she has a history from previous pregnancy, when she has diabetes, and/or when she gained too much weight over the course of her pregnancy. Prolonged or rapid labour can also cause Dystocia. There is a subcategory of Fetal Dystocia called Shoulder Dystocia where the head of the baby has already emerged but the baby's shoulders are stuck. Because of the frequency of Shoulder Dystocia, there are manoeuvres that Doctors do to guide the baby out.
