A decrease in bone marrow density. Causes of low bone mass include family history and certain conditions or medications. Those with low bone mass are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis. To help slow down bone loss, eat foods rich in calcium and vitamin D and perform weight-bearing exercises such as walking or jogging.
