The term cervicitis refers to swelling (inflammation) of the cervix. The cervix is the narrow end of the uterus which opens into the vagina. It is possible to have cervicitis without experiencing signs and symptoms. Noticeable signs and symptoms include bleeding between menstrual periods and changes in vaginal discharge. Cervicitis often results from a sexually transmitted infection. Treatment involves treating the underlying cause of the inflammation.
