Death as a result of a heart attack. Myocardial infaction (MI) is the medical term for a heart attack. A heart attack is usually caused by a blood clot, which stops blood flow to a part of the heart muscle. In the days leading up to a heart attack, patients may experience fatigue, chest discomfort, and general malaise.
