Hepatic Encephalopathy

Hepatic encephalopathy, also known as portosystemic encephalopathy, refers to a deterioration in brain function as a result of reduced liver function.  Symptoms may be mild at first ranging from mild confusion, forgetfullness, mental fogginess and poor judgement to the more severe symptoms of slurred speech, disorientation and abnormal shaking of the hands and arms.
