Muscle Deterioration (Rhabdomyolysis)

Rhabdomyolysis is when muscle tissue breaks down, releasing byproducts into the bloodstream. These byproducts can be harmful to the kidney, leading to kidney failure. People with rhabdomyolysis tend to feel pain, weakness and swelling in the affected areas. Rhabdomyolysis can be caused by external physical factors such as a natural disaster.
