Pleuritic Pain (Pain with Breathing)

Pleurae are thin layers of tissue that wrap around the outside of each lung and surround the inside of the chest cavity. When the pleurae become inflammed, the layers rub against each other as the lungs expand to breath. This can cause sharp pain when breathing, also known as pleuritic chest pain.
